This paper presents a detailed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based approach for modeling thermal destruction of hazardous wastes in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB)incinerator.

a landfill and compost plant proposed to come up near the Yamuna at Kuberpur village in Agra came in for criticism at a recent public hearing at Agra Collectorate. Environmentalists and social activists are concerned that incineration of waste at the plant will release toxic pollutants, dioxins and furans, in the environment. The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co said Tuesday it has developed a recycling technology to recover metals from plastic-coated wires and plastics used in electric and electronic equipment without causing hazardous side effects. Developed in cooperation with Kusatsu Electric Co, the new technology uses the catalytic properties of titanium oxide to facilitate the recovery of inorganic substances such as metals by transforming plastics and other organic substances into harmless gases, Matsushita said. With the technology, mixed plastic waste, which is regarded as non-recyclable and destined for incineration or landfill, is treated and changed into nontoxic gases, said the company, known for its Panasonic brand.

People have always been proficient at making trash. Future archaeologists will note that at the tail end of the 20th century, a new, noxious kind of clutter exploded across the landscape: the digital detritus that has come to be called e-waste. More than 40 years ago, Gordon Moore, co-founder of the computer-chip maker Intel, observed that computer processing power roughly doubles every two years. An unstated corollary to "Moore's law" is that at any given time, all the machines considered state-of-the-art are simultaneously on the verge of obsolescence.
