Water is called as Indrajal in mythology

Kerala is examining the possibilities of exercising its riparian rights to seek higher allocation from the Parambikulam-Aliyar rivers in view of the steep increase in utilisation of water from the river basins of the Bharathapuzha and the Chalakudi. The matter was discussed at a high-level review meeting convened by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan here on Monday in preparation of the Chief Secretary-level conference to be held in the State capital on May 30.

Residents of West Merul in the city yesterday demanded implementation of the Hatirjheel project according to its original plan to save numerous residential quarters and business establishments from destruction. At a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday under the banner of 'Committee to protect houses and business organisations from Hatirjheel project acquisition' they said they have been residing in the area for around three decades.

The Centre has announced that 4.455 million wells will be taken up for recharging groundwater in hard rock areas for the benefit of farmers. The government has asked the states government concern to take necessary steps to implement the decision before monsoon this year. The Artificial Recharge of Ground Water through wells scheme was launched keeping in view the concerns of over exploitation of groundwater resources in the country as well as to ensure sustainable water resource management and irrigation facilities in the affected areas.

The Vice Chancellor (VC), Gomal University (GU), Professor Dr Muhammad Farid Khan on Thursday said that some mega educational projects were being launched to bring the university at par with five developed universities of Pakistan. He was addressing the inaugural session of the one-day workshop on water/energy conservation in agriculture sector, arranged by the GU's Faculty of Agriculture. He also said that new building of the Faculty of Agriculture was being constructed and that faculty would be transformed into the University of Agriculture to import sufficient knowledge in this field.

A Senate panel on Wednesday recommended convening an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Common Interest (CCI) to evolve consensus among provinces on the construction of new water reservoirs, including controversial Kalabagh dam.
