China will ramp up construction of dams, reservoirs and wells in response to a severe drought in the country

Even as the city reels under severe water crisis, authorities at the Jijamata Udyan zoo at Byculla are set to cope with hard times ahead. After an intensive survey to tap inert water sources within its premises, the zoo authorities have revived five borewells to supply water to its ponds and lawns.

A committee constituted to survey bore wells by various industrial units in Verna Industrial Estate has unearthed gross illegalities and has recommended immediate capping of all bore wells there for not falling within the purview of the Ground Water Regulation Act, 2002.
