Andhra Pradesh is facing a drought-like situation this year. The state had been receiving good rainfall ever since YSR Reddy became Chief Minister for the first term in June 2004. In his second term now, the Chief Minister is now thinking of declaring a drought in case the state does not receive sufficient rainfall by August 15.

Rajahmundry, Nov. 25: The state government issued an order declaring Papikonda Wildlife Sanctuary as a National Park recently. The government issued GO No. 144 declaring the wildlife sanctuary as a national park to be developed in an area covering about 1,012.85 square kilometres.
Rajahmundry, Nov. 14: The education authorities under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme plan to start mini residential bridge centres (RBC) from January 2009 in West Godavari, in an attempt to rescue child labourers as well as school dropouts and provide them formal education.
Hyderabad, Nov. 4: The state government issued orders notifying Papikonda wildlife sanctuary as a national park. This became necessary as works were taken up in the sanctuary area for the Polavaram project. The animals in the national park will be shifted.
