Question raised in Rajya Sabha on compensation for damage to crops, 04/12/2015. Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare is concerned with coordination of relief measures necessitated by drought, hailstorm, pest attack, cold wave/frost. The details of financial assistance approved State-wise by the Government of India from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) from 2010-11 and onwards is at Annexure-I. Distribution of relief to the farmers is the responsibility of the State Governments.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Pollution in rivers, 30/11/2015. Discharge of untreated and partially treated sewage from cities / towns and industrial effluents constitute a major source of pollution in rivers. As per the report published by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in February 2015, 302 polluted river stretches have been identified on 275 rivers based on Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels, a key indicator of organic pollution. The State-wise details are at Annexure-I.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha Number of tigers in the country, 30/11/2015. The assessment of the status of tigers, co-predators and their prey 2014 using the refined methodology of capturing and re-capturing in camera trap has shown a countrywide 30% increase in tiger numbers with an estimated number of 2226 (range 1945-2491) as compared to 2010 estimation of 1706 (range 1520-1909 tigers). The details of tiger estimation pertaining to tiger landscapes in the country for the years 2006, 2010 and 2014 are at Annexure-I.
