Activists of Greenpeace, a global non-governmental organisation that takes up environmental issues, today barged into a Bayer Crop science field trial site here, protesting against herbicide-resistant rice trials.

The press release by Greenpeace on its protest against herbicide-resistant rice trial by Bayer Crop in the village of Chinnakanjarla, about 45 kilometers from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. It warns that this would lead to serious contamination of non-GM rice grown in the vicinity.

June 21: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, on Sunday asked the APTransco chairman and managing director, Mr Sudhirth Bhattacharya to replace 3.36 lakh transformers and 1.65 lakh distribution transformers across the state in order to boost the power infrastructure in the state. If it is implemented, it would become the biggest capacity addition in the history of the power sector.

HYDERABAD: A week-long effort last month to conduct a census of tigers showed a slight increase in their population from 102 last year to 106 in 27 protected areas of the State, which are all sanctuaries.

Senior forest officials explained that the population could be higher if the entire land mass of the State was taken into account.
