The National Green Tribunal today sought response of Rajasthan government on a plea seeking to involve it as a party in a case dealing with non-forest activity like mining in the Aravalli range.

Gurgaon, December 2: The city residents have approached President Pranab Mukherjee urging him to intervene and save Aravali forest.

New Delhi: The city will soon have a special committee on biodiversity for 10,000 hectares designated for the purpose.

The Haryana government has chosen to bypass the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) in order to have prime Aravalli forest land transferred to build a golf course.

Instead, they have submitted an application directly in the Supreme Court where they have shown 160 acres of Aravalli forest land to be “barren land”. This, they believe can be converted to build a golf course, waterways and an amusement park. The Aravalli forest stretch that the developers are eyeing is part of a 350 acre Aravalli forest stretch.

Haryana’s forest cover might be only one-sixth of the target that the state has set for itself by 2020 but this has not stopped the state government from eyeing more green areas for development act
