The Railway Ministry has sanctioned Rs 350.33 crore for construction of 20 kilometer-long stretch of proposed 63 kilometer Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Bairi broad-gauge railway line, Chief Minister DK Dhumal told Vidhan Sabha on Thursday.

The most important practical and critical problem related to the performance of reservoirs is the estimation of storage capacity loss due to sedimentation process. The problem to be addressed is to estimate the rate of sediment deposition and the period of time at which the sediment would interfere with the useful functioning of a reservoir.

Marwahi forest division is well known for human-sloth bear conflict. Available forest cover is highly degraded, fragmented and interspersed with agricultural crop fields, and small townships. Data since 1990 onwards reveal 28 cases of human death by wild animals, comprising 13 men and 15 women. Except 2, all casualties were cased by sloth bear.

Bhata land is an important lateritic and well known category of wastelands, which covers extensive area in Chhattisgarh. Sporadic patches of plantations have been raised in this land on experimental basis, for selecting suitable species for taking up large-scale plantations. Present study was carried out in 20-years old plantations at Mohan bhata in Bilspur district.

The sloth bear is a Schedule 1 species in the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and has been listed as "threatened" by IUCN. No systematic information is available on sloth bear distribution and population either in or outside the protected areas in India.

The first unit of the 500 MW Sipat stage II power project run by the National Thermal power Corporation (NTPC) in Bilaspur district of Chattisgarh went on full load in the presence of Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh. The second 500 MW unit is expected to go fully commercial by October. Both the units use boilers and turbines manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The two 500 MW units form Stage-II of the project, while three super critical 660 MW units form Stage-I.
