The Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) is playing an important role in helping the country promote energy security among South Asian countries.

A parliamentary standing committee yesterday asked the power and energy ministry for taking an immediate initiative for generating wind and solar-based electricity as alternative sources of power due to gas crisis.

Weak prices and sagging demand could see gas supply most of Britain's electricity well into winter, sidelining coal plants and cutting Britain's carbon emissions as a welcome side effect.

Gas is usually favored for round-the-clock power generation in summer when low demand for heating keeps the fuel price low, swelling gas-fired power plant profits, known as spark spreads.

An American firm Bargamo E&A has shown interest to invest in the solar energy projects. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm, Hilard Herzong, called on the Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan. A statement on Sunday said that the meeting was held at the Governor House here.

Despite nearly six years of the Centre

ANGUL: Power generation at the 3000-MW NTPC power plant at Kaniha has been hit due to coal crisis even as Mahanadi Coalfields Limited claimed to have supplied 99 per cent of coal demand of the plant in the current month.

The power plant, second biggest in India, provides power to 17 states, including four southern states.

LUCKNOW: With plans to have a generation capacity to the tune of a whopping 25,000 MW by the end of tenure of 12th planning commission, the Mayawati

government has asked the Centre to come up with policies giving preference to the landlocked states while allocating coal blocks.

ANGUL: After Nalco decided to import coal to bridge the shortfall, the depeeneing coal crisis led to shutdown of a 120 MW unit at its power plant here. Aluminium production at the smelter has also been curtailed due to the precipitating crisis.

ANGUL: Despite having a comfortable coal stock, the National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has decided to import coal to tide over its shortage in the wake of more coal demand for its 860 MW captive power plant here.

July 3: The government on Friday cancelled the coal linkages for 25 captive power plant, said the coal minister, Mr Sriprakash Jaiswal.

The minister said that these captive power plants were to generate around 1,292 MW of electricity and required 5.844 million tonnes per annum of coal.
