AHMEDABAD: The diseases chart in the city had been soaring up during the last few months. The number of suspected malaria deaths in the city has gone up to 59 in the last one-and-half months according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). There have been in all five dengue deaths till Friday in the city.

Incharge Sindh Health Department’s Dengue Surveillance Cell Dr Suresh Kumar said during last 24 hours six more dengue cases were confirmed in the province.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Friday, extended full support to the Punjab government in coping with the growing number of cases of dengue fever.

The health department has asked the municipal corporations to ensure proper follow-up of individual malaria or dengue cases that are reported at its health centres. The department has also wanted that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) ensure a double check of any mosquito control measures that are undertaken at the ward level. This includes fogging, spraying of insecticides, collecting smears and examinations and follow-up of fever cases that are reported at the urban health centres.
