KANCHEEPURAM: The consumption of fish, netted from a heavily polluted lake near here, is believed to be the cause of acute diarrhoeal disease that affected more than 500 persons in the town and adjoining hamlets in the past six days, as the test of the drinking water sample supplied by the municipality has confirmed that the water is potable.

Even as 48 fresh cases of diarrhoea were reported in Chinna Kanch-eepuram on Sunday, the threat of the epidemic spre-ading to other villages, and even Chennai, looms large.
