A Young girl died while 12 others were taken ill after outbreak of gastroenteritis in Basal village near Solan, last night. Out of 12 patients suffering from diarrhoea, Darshan Singh and Mohit were admitted to the Primary Health Centre at Dharampur, while eight patients were given treatment at the village by a team of doctors led by Medical Officer Dr S.P. Singh.

WHILE the Mumbai civic administration is dealing with an increase in cases of rain-related ailments this monsoon, the state health administration has had to tackle fewer instances of disease outbreaks so far. Since April, there have been only 15 deaths in the other parts of the state due to water-borne and vector-borne diseases. Nine of these deaths are due to water-borne diseases like gastroenteritis and diarrhoea, and six due to vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.

Over 200 people have been attacked by gastroenteritis in several villages under Namsai sub-division of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh over the past few days. Official sources said here today that no deaths were reported from any of the affected villages so far. Many villages, including Philobari, Silatoo, Lekang and Khowji, had been hit by the disease. Local medical officers visited the affected areas and treated about 200 patients. However, proper treatment could not be provided, following the lack of adequate medicines.

One elderly man died on Saturday while more than 50 others have fallen sick due to a diarrhea outbreak in Fulbariya of Siraha district. One Nar Bahadur Magar, 60, of Chhaghare, Fulbariya-6 of the district died after being taken ill due to a serious bout of diarrhea, Kantipur Daily reported. Jiwach Saha, a local, told the daily that the whole village has been badly affected due to the epidemic that hit the village four days ago.

With the weather turning hot and humid, like other parts of the province reports of gastroenteritis particularly among children have started to pour in at various city hospitals. Cases pertaining to gastro/diarrhoea reported to various government hospitals across the province increased considerably during May. Reports have also been received pertaining to cholera epidemic in a district as well.
