Each year, about 70,000 children die of diarrhoea in Pakistan. Simple, basic information and knowledge on hand washing or preparing oral rehydration salt (ORS) at home can save the lives of children.

One person died and seven others were admitted following reports of a diarrhoea outbreak because of suspected water contamination in Ward 20 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) over the past few days. Civic officials are yet to determine the cause of diarrhoea.

With the advent of summer, diarrhoea has broken out in an epidemic form in the capital city of Dhaka mainly due to scarcity of pure drinking water.

More than one thousand diarrhoea-affected people were admitted to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB) during last two days, according to sources in ICDDRB.
