Rs.70 crore sought for relief measures

CHENNAI: About 3,300 rural habitations in the State require relief measures for drinking water supply in the wake of the failure of the south-west monsoon.

Citizens staged a dharna in front of the Town Municipal Council, urging for the authorities concerned to solve the drinking water problem prevailing in Malur town, in Malur on Wednesday.

The residents of Hanumanthnagar, Maruthi Layout, Mutton Market, A D Colony and Bhovi Colony took part in the protest. They urged the TMC authorities to provide proper drinking water to their areas.

Gandhinagar : While the monsoon is on a break, the good news for the state is that dams have 43.04 per cent water. What's worrying the government though is that dams in north Gujarat have just 24 per cent.

Aug. 1: For the first time in the last five years, a majority of municipalities in the state are facing severe drinking water scarcity. Only 130 out of 1,128 mandals in the state have received normal rainfall during this monsoon season signalling the onset of a major drought.

Federal Government is preparing a plan to minimise the adverse impact of climate change on livestock. The plan will focus on provision of shading, improved airflow, reduced crowding, alerted diets and provision for ensuring animal health.
