CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to go through a report by a monitoring committee and submit a timeframe by which it intended to take corrective measures with regard to dyeing units in three villages of Karur town.

After facing an environmental threat from the two thermal plants, the Bathinda area will have to cope with the adverse effects of the proposed oil refinery being set up by HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd. The refinery may start by 2011. The two thermal plants, to be operational in two-three years, will use 77,585 tonnes of coal daily.

ANANTAPUR, Sept. 22: Industrial pollutants are contaminating the Penna river in Anantapur district.

Many industries located along the banks are indiscriminately releasing effluents into the river at Tadipatri which has constant groundwater levels in the district.

Tuticorin: Collector G. Prakash inaugurated a 250-KVa (Kilo Volt ampere) project to generate electricity from effluents released fish processing companies here on Wednesday.

He said the waste extracted from fish cleaning and exporting activities could be converted into useful gas.
