Compliance report of National Green Tribunal order of January 07, 2020 by the state government of Jharkhand. The issue for consideration was the steps for restitution of the area which was earlier under the RORO asbestos mines, Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district. Lease for such mines was given in favour of Hyderabad Asbestos Cement Product Limited (HACPL). The mines stopped working in the year 1983. However, safety measures for restitution of the mines to mitigate adverse environmental and health impact in the area were not taken.

The “Jharkhand State Mineral Policy, 2020” was being formulated and under approval process that would facilitate systematic and sustainable mining and mineral activities within the threshold limit of forest and environment. This was stated in the compliance report filed by the Department of Mines and Geology Department, Government of Jharkhand.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of M.D. Rizwan Vs State of Jharkhand dated 10/06/2020. The matter related to riverbed sand mining in Dumka District of the State of Jharkhand, which according to the applicant was against the Sustainable Sand Mining Management Guidelines, 2016 framed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) which allowed riverbed sand mining only during the dry season and not in the rainy season.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Savita Kumari Vs State of Jharkhand dated 10/06/2020.

The matter related to illegal obstruction of natural flow and characteristics of Jhinjharia stream with its outfall into the Dhobia talab, a lake in Hazaribagh, District Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. It was alleged that the stream which is of about 5 km in length and 30 feet in width was on the verge of extinction due to unauthorized and illegal constructions. The Dhobia talab which was originally 12 acres in size had now shrunk to only 5 to 6 acres.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of R. Sreedhar Vs Union of India & Others dated 28/05/2020. The appeal was directed against an amended Environmental Clearance (EC) dated 03.09.2019 granted to M/s. Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd., (Project Proponent) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), permitting withdrawl of water from the river Ganga for the proposed thermal power project at Godda, Jharkhand to be set up by Adani.
