The high quality timber species sal of the South Kamrup area has come under tremendous pressure following illegal logging. Over-exploitation for the last 20 years has inflicted a major blow on the huge stocks of sal forest, triggering habitat shrinkage and the consequent man-elephant conflict which has become an annual phenomenon during the harvesting season.

The study aims at the assessment of drinking water quality in terms of some metal cations in and around Rangia town at different distances from the Rangia college. The results obtained were compared with drinking water standards (WHO, 2004 and BIS).

This study has been undertaken to assess the impact of effluents released by the APOL (Assam Polyester Co-operative Society Limited), textile mill Rangia in the district of Kamrup, Assam on the quality of drinking water in the neighbouring areas. The effluent of the mill is discharged into the agricultural land on the western side of the mill.

Japanese encephalitis vaccination campaign in Lakhimpur district concluded after achieving 95.44 per cent of the target. The campaign, which kicked off in Lakhimpur early this month, was extended in which 3, 15, 495 children between the age group of 1 to 15 years were vaccinated throughout the district in 1,522 centres.
