The Hill Area Development Program (HADP) has been introduced by the Government of India to initiate socio economic development in the hill areas of India since the inception of the Fifth Five Year Plan.

Away from the public eye, an ambitious initiative could actually change the prospects for Kaziranga National Park as well as the district of Karbi Anglong. The forest department supported by WWF India and personnel of the Indian Army are preparing the eco-restoration of a landscape that extends over 1,000 sq km.

Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi today proposed a host of new schemes in his Budget speech, which included setting up of new universities, medical and engineering colleges as well as a special employment generation programme. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Agriculture Department under the initiative of the district administration launched crop harvesting mission on Thursday to get the actual output report of the extra yield variety Arize 6444 of hybrid rice technology whose demonstration was conducted under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM).

There exist a sound Indigenous Knowledge System (IKS) among Karbis relating to prediction of annual seasons using flora and fauna and physical factors as indicators. Floral characters include leaf fall, formation of new leaves, flowering, fruiting and ripening, formation of tubers, etc.
