Rampant encroachment on the Kusumtola farm land has raised eyebrows among the people of Naduar in Sonitpur district. It may be noted that to provide shelter to unemployed youths of the area, the Government of Assam had established the farm in the 1980s. More than 200 bighas of land has been alloted to the farm at Borigaon Ghopshar vide dag No. 357/279 and 401/420 of Borbhogia mouza under Naduar circle office.

Finally, it was left to the villagers of Sancoale, Verna and Keri to approach the Goa Bench of the Mumbai High Court through three separate writ petitions that challenge the allotment of land to the developers of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which were supposed to come up in Goa. The petitions say that the SEZs were allotted land by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in gross violation of the law.

In an apparent departure from its stance of being environment-friendly, the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to pass any order on a petition filed by a few Gujarat fishermen challenging the Special Economic Zone at Mundra. In what comes as a breather for the Adani group, the apex court asked the petitioners to approach the respective High Court for directions, if any.
