More than 400 children have died of lead poisoning in northern Nigeria in the last six months, the aid group Doctors Without Borders said Wednesday.

The deaths occurred in seven villages in Zamfara State, where runoff from illegal gold mining, which contains high concentrations of lead, entered the soil and water supply.
