The Punjab Cabinet today gave approval to link the Mohali railway station with the Chandigarh metro rail project at a cost of Rs 1,427 crore.

Punjab Cabinet approved the ambitious Rs. 1,427-crore project which will link the city with its satellite town Mohali, on Wednesday.

The decision to link S.A.S. Nagar Mohali with Chandigarh was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, an official spokesman said here.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy asserted here on Wednesday that the Kochi Metro Rail Project would be executed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with E. Sreedharan in three years.

The Chief Minister said he had held talks with Mr. Sreedharan (former Managing Director of DMRC) that there was no change in the government’s resolve that Mr. Sreedharan would oversee the project. “The DMRC and Mr. Sreedharan are our best bet for timely completion of the project. Steps would be taken to remove any impediments to fast completion of the project.”

With companies facing financial crunch, the project has suffered delay and the deadline has now been extended from July to December 2012. JDA has already changed the deadline thrice.
