NEW DELHI: In a week from now, residents of East Delhi and adjoining areas in the Capital will be able to board Delhi Metro trains from a brand new station: Yamuna Bank. For thousands of commuters living in the rest of the Capital, the trans-Yamuna areas will be that much more easily accessible.

Construction of the longest tunnel in the city, through which high-speed Delhi Metro trains will zip in a couple of months, was completed in the heart of the capital on Wednesday.

More than a 100 protesters, including members of Hasiru Usiru staged yet another protest in a Padayatra outside the Lalbagh on R V Road here on Tuesday demanding that the metro alignment be shelved.

Even after the government directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to stop all construction work at Lal Bagh and R V Road, the work is still being carried out, alleged environmentalists on Monday.

"BMRCL should heed the voice of the people."

Citizens who care for the green pastures of Lal Bagh in the City on Friday once again voiced their protest against the proposed metro station by BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) inside Lal Bagh and R V Road stretch.

After all the protests and human chain formation on Wednesday evening, members of Hasire Usiru and supporters on Thursday sent a legal notice to BMRCL.

Mumbai: After strong protests from various residents associations between Juhu and Bandra, MMRDA is thinking of introducing a clause in the bidding process that some distance or the entire route might be made underground.

But if the option doesn't turn out to be feasible, there are chances that Metro II might meet the same fate as Peddar Road flyover.

Engineers involved in the East-West Metro project would rather miss the 2012 deadline than mess with the drainage pipes, electricity lines and telecom cables criss-crossing Salt Lake.

Sources in the Calcutta Metro Railway Corporation, which is overseeing the project, blamed the unavailability of maps of underground utilities for the delay in starting construction.
