Activated carbon was prepared from Behda (BEAC), Anjan (AAC), Chinch (CAC), and Bakam Neem (BNAC) leaves. The effects of various parameters such as initial metal concentration, particle size, pH and contact time for the adsorption of Cu (II) on BEAC, AAC, CAC and BNAC were investigated. The amount of adsorbent increased the percentage of metal removal increased accordingly. The optimum pH for the Cu (II) absorption was 7.0 except BEAC. The equilibrium data fit well with both Langmuir and Freundlich models of adsorption.
Concerned over rising temperature in the city, the environment wing of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will change in its approach to plantation.
Instead of planting decorative and fast-growing trees, the BMC will gor for shady trees from the coming monsoon to create a green canopy on city roads, official sources said. The BMC has selected two species of trees for the plantation drive. About 1,500 such trees would be planted on the vacant patches in different wards as well as medians.

As part of the two-month long campaign ‘U & Me Against Dengue’, fumigation drive, neem plantation and cleanliness drive would be kicked off in phases across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad to combat the spread of the mosquito-borne viral infection.
With monsoon expected to arrive on time, the arrangements to start annual plantation exercise for the year 2013-14 have been put in place by forest department.

Giving details to The Hindu about the successful planting of saplings and raising them to trees, A. Joseph Rexon, Director, TIST Tree Planting India programme, said it was started in Kancheepuram district with six farmers in 2003.
