NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday assured the Rajya Sabha that fishermen who could not carry on with their vocation after the August 7 Mumbai oil spill would be given compensation after the impact on them was assessed.

A study of the environmental impact was also being undertaken.

Navi Mumbai: As more containers from the MSC Chitra washed ashore, the officials of Uran taluka geared up to begin a clean-up drive on Friday. The process of clearing the plastic waste and other rotting food items will be undertaken by the Coast Guard, along with the Raigad district officials.

Mumbai: Movement of goods began along the navigational channel in the Mumbai harbour, which opened partially on Thursday after a five-day shutdown, Union Shipping Minister G. K. Vasan told a press conference here.
