MORMUGAO, NOV 11: Claiming that contamination of water due to seepage of petroleum is a serious issue, Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho has threatened to support public agitation against an oil company located in the vicinity.
He was speaking to oil company officials during a joint inspection along with various government bodies at the contaminated rivulet in Jina-Sancoale on Tuesday morning.

In a joint inspection carried by various government bodies, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Monday collected samples from contaminated rivulets which burst into flames on Saturday evening at Shindolim-Jina, Sancoale for examination.

NAZIRA, Oct 13: The ONGC(L) though booking profits from the crude oil of Asom yet it seems to be reluctant to give thought to the problems of oil field areas.

Experiments are carried out to determine simultaneous one-dimensional spatial concentration distribution of spilled petroleum in three soils (sandy, loamy and topsoil) in the horizontal and vertical directions. It is shown that the horizontal spread is very slow and the volume of petroleum spilled has minimal effects on the extent of spread in the horizontal direction.

Over 100 chemical storage tanks built at the Pirpav jetty near Chembur have been operating without approvals from the ministry of environment and forests for over 18 years. Each of these tanks has an average capacity of 200,000 kilolitres of oil.

On 30 May 2006, a bulk carrier, MV Ocean Seraya ran aground along the Karwar coast spilling 650 tonnes of oil. Due to the rough SW monsoon, the spill spread to some beaches in south Goa. The aim of this communication is to study the immediate impact of oil spill on benthic ecology.
