Commuters can soon look forward to parking their four-wheelers inside mechanised multi-storey parking lots before walking across a spiffy skywalk connecting to the nearest railway station.

KOLKATA, Sept. 2: State transport minister, Mr Subhas Chakraborty, today urged the Centre to provide funds for the construction of upcoming projects in the state including the 80 km elevated Ring Road, East-West Metro and a Light Transit Rail (LRT) Service.

Absence of a parking lot in Aabpara Market causes terrible traffic mess everyday especially during rush hours, affecting motorists and causing road accidents.

During a visit to the market on Monday, Daily Times found a lot of shopkeepers and customers parking their vehicles haphazardly in front of the market and on a major stretch of Khayaban-e-Suharwardy.

The Municipal Corporation is all set to ease the traffic situation of the city with three new paid parking lots in Industrial Area, Phase I. This would ease the problem of parking that is presently being faced by visitors to the area.
The parking lots would come up near the poultry farm, behind the dairy farm and near the parking area allocated for trucks. The parking lots have already become functional on a temporary basis. However, the final approval has been sought from the Finance and Contract Committee. The issue will be taken up during the meeting to be held soon.

Delhi municipality proposes low annual parking fee at a time when stiff parking fees are fast becoming an effective deterrent against car purchasing the world over, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is contemplating reduced parking charges. The municipality has a proposal for a yearly levy which will tantamount to vehicle owners paying far less than what they currently pay for parking.

Planning for more and more parking is not likely to help in the long run since the number of vehicles on Delhi's roads is growing dramatically. The city needs a good public transport system at the earliest

According to a report there are a total of 18 lakh registered passenger cars in Delhi.

New Delhi: The majestic Rajpath was completely choked on Monday as numerous vehicles of visiting political leaders were parked at the historic stretch in the heart of the Capital.

As the parking lots around Parliament filled up, vehicles of leaders headed to see the debate on confidence motion were parked on all the nearby roads in Luytens' Delhi. The spillover reached Rajpath too, where the traffic police first allowed parking in two general parking lots located on both sides of the road.
