Agricultural productivity depends on several factors. These include the availability and quality of agricultural inputs such as land, water, seeds and fertilizers, access to agricultural credit and crop insurance, assurance of remunerative prices for agricultural produce, and storage and marketing infrastructure, among others.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Compensation Under Crop Insurance Scheme, 22/11/2016. As per provisions of the schemes, the claims are being processed and
settled by the concerned insurance companies based on the final yield data/weather data provided within the stipulated time by the State Government/designated agencies.
The claims settled by the insurance companies during Kharif 2015 and Rabi 2015-16 under various crop insurance schemes are annexed.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Assistance to Tackle Drought, 22/11/2016. The list of districts declared as drought affected by the concerned State Governments during 2015-16 is at Annexure – I. The details regarding cropped area damaged by 33% and more in the drought affected States as reported by the State Governments are at Annexure-II. Details regarding assistance sought and approved for drought from NDRF in the last three years and current year are at Annexure-III.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Allocation of Fund for Drought, 22/11/2016. The State Government is primarily responsible for taking necessary relief measures in the wake of natural calamities including drought. For undertaking relief measures,funds are available with the State Government in the form of State Disaster Response Fund

As the state bears the pain of a second consecutive drought year, crop insurance is again in sharp focus.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yohana, 05/08/2016. Total 16 insurance companies including all concerned Public Sector Insurance Companies and 11 Private Sector General Insurance Companies have been empanelled for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Crop Insurance Scheme, 26/07/2016. Prior to current Kharif season i.e. Kharif 2016 season National Crop Insurance Programme (NCIP) with three component schemes namely, Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS), Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) and Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS) alongwith National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) were under implementation in the country.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, 19/07/2016. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been approved for implementation in place of erstwhile National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and Modified NAIS (MNAIS) from current Kharif 2016 season. Details of Government share in respect of premium subsidy and claims (under NAIS) and number of beneficiaries during the last three years under erstwhile schemes of NAIS/MNAIS/WBCIS are at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on National Crop Insurance Scheme, 19/07/2016. The National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and Modified NAIS have been withdrawn from Kharif 2016 season and new scheme namely, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been introduced in place of these scheme. State-wise details (including Maharashtra) of claims paid and number of farmers benefitted during last three years under Crop Insurance Schemes are given in Annexure-I and II respectively.
