Jamshedpur, Jan. 18: A migratory herd of tuskers from the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary have been pushed back halfway from the bordering Purulia district of Bengal.

Forest officials engaged a hulla party to chase away the herd after a tusker allegedly trampled a villager and damaged vast swathes of farmland in Jalda and Bagmundi blocks of the district.

The 12th National Animal Husbandry week concluded at Purulia Polytechnic ground, in the outskirts of Purulia town last week. This was the first time that this seminar was conducted in the state.

Kalyan, a youth welfare organisation in the district has started a 'Millennium Village' programme supported by German Agro Action in a small pocket of Purulia district since September 2006. Nani Gopal Pal PURULIA- The Supreme Court has doled out an order to strip bare, the amusement parks and mini zoos in India, of their recognition, if they are not sanctioned by the Central Zoo, New Delhi. Captive animals can only be returned to the nearest divisional forest officer, or their donar organisations, if, they are recognized by the central zoo. An investigation revealed that most of the amusement parks and mini zoos, in and around Purulia, are not recognised by the Centre, New Delhi.
