The Supreme Court of India has in its judgement of 27 February 2012 on the interlinking of rivers project, given categorical directions to the Executive Government to implement the 'project' as a whole in a time bound manner and has also asked the Centre to appoint a Special Committee to work out the modalities and oversee the implementation of the project.

Drainage characteristics of a river basin reflect its hydrologic behavior and area useful when quantified in evaluating the hydrologic response of the basin. The Sur river basin is a fifth order basin. The basin shape parameters are not within the standard values given for a good and ideal basin.

The Dibru river basin of Assam is investigated to examine the influence of active structure by applying an integrated study on geomorphology, morphotectonics, subsurface structure, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) using topographic map, IRS 1D LISS III, IRS P6 LISS III, SRTM, seismic and subsurface data.
