The Delhi government has built 9,817 houses for slum dwellers and urban poor below the poverty line under the Rajiv Ratan Aawas Yojna. The dwelling units are now ready for allotment, said Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) managing director Manoj Parida.

The State Government has included three slum areas under the basic services to urban poor (BSUP) component of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) during the 2007-08 financial year for construction and upgradation of 1,961 dwelling units.

The Urban Improvement Trusts in Rajasthan will speed up the process for regularisation of slums in the cities and residential colonies developed on agricultural land. The move is expected to provide much-awaited relief to the residents of these areas. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, presiding over a meeting of the trusts here, said giving title deeds to the poor people living in these colonies would meet their aspiration for owning a house of their own.
