Guwahati: The State Wildlife Advisory Board has decided to forward a Rs.7.8-crore anti-erosion scheme to the National Wildlife Board for final approval. The scheme was prepared by the Water Resources Department for protecting the Kaziranga National Park from erosion caused by the Brahmaputra.

The erosion by Beki river has been creating devastation in some parts of Barpeta and Baksa districts for the last few years.

Severe erosion since 2004 has targeted the Barpeta Dairy Farm, among others, and almost 800 bighas of land out of 1800 bighas of land of the farm have been lost to the river till now.

Waterlogging after a brief spell of rain is still a common feature in Guwahati city, but unfortunately, more than five years have passed since former Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Dr NK Choudhury offered a series of suggestions to the Government to deal with the problem and most of those are yet to be implemented.

PATNA While the flood situation in north Bihar eased with water levels in some rivers falling down the danger marks, there were fresh worries on Wednesday from continuous erosions of embankments at several places and a new breach seen in the Bagmati's embankment.
