Report of the Joint Committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal in Appeal No. 19 of 2017 in the matter of Social Action for Environment and Forest Vs Union of India & Others. The issue for consideration was the validity of Environmental Clearance granted for setting up of thermal power station by the THDC India Limited, at Khurja, District Bulandshahar, State of Uttar Pradesh. Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of R. Sreedhar Vs Union of India & Others dated 28/05/2020. The appeal was directed against an amended Environmental Clearance (EC) dated 03.09.2019 granted to M/s. Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd., (Project Proponent) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), permitting withdrawl of water from the river Ganga for the proposed thermal power project at Godda, Jharkhand to be set up by Adani.

Report of Punjab Pollution Control Board in compliance of National Green Tribunal order of January 27, 2020. Darshan Singh, retired engineer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited had filed an application before the NGT and said that he has prepared a project report to convert coal fired thermal plant at Bathinda to paddy straw fired power plant - which would result in reduction of pollution, taking place on account of burning of paddy straw.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued show cause directions to 31 units of 14 thermal power plants on 31.01.2020 for non-compliance of CPCB’s directions dated 11.12.2017 issued for ensuring compliance of emission standards prescribed by Government of India. According to Ministry of Power, there are 650 units (196667 MW) installed in the country, out of 650 units, 75 units (8304 MW) have been retired so far due to various reasons including environmental issues such as Badarpur TPS (Units – 1 to 5) of NTPC Ltd. and Rajghat TPS (Unit – 1 & 2) of IPGCL.
