The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is aiming to reduce the deaths by malaria in the metropolis to a two-digit number this monsoon.

The toll was reduced from 198 in 2009 to 145 in 2010, said additional commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar yesterday.

Last year, malaria claimed 145 victims and affected nearly 77,000 in the city.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made it mandatory for all city hospitals to report dengue and chikungunya cases online.

Nodal officers of all 596 hospitals in the city will provide the exact figures of people hit by dengue and chikungunya, who are undergoing treatment there.
