MoEF for legal action against Ardent Steel pellet plant

The company has already shut down its 600,000 mtpa plant at Keonjhar

Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has ordered to initiate legal action against Ardent Steel Limited (ASL), for running a pellet plant without obtaining environmental clearance. Accordingly, the forest and environment department of Odisha government has commenced procedures to file a case against the company.

Final call on Western Ghats report in a month

The November 13 order, passed by Jayanthi Natarajan when she was Environment Minister, imposed a ban on clearances for new mining and other polluting industries.

The Environment Ministry informed the National Green Tribunal on Thursday that a final decision on the implementation of the Kasturirangan Committee report on the Western Ghats would be taken in a month. It clarified that the ban on new projects in the 6,000-square kilometre zone would continue.

Follow environmental laws in slaughter house: HC

Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking ban on a proposed slaughter house near the Ram Ganga river in Moradabad, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to take decision in this connection as per the pollution and environmental laws.

The above order was passed by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud and Justice Dilip Gupta on a PIL filed by Maa Ganga Mukti Samiti.
