The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh has worsened, particularly in the western parts of the state where the swollen river Ramganga has submerged more than 2,000 villages in Moradabad, Rampur and Bijnore districts, an official spokesman said here on Sunday.

Due to the floods, vehicular traffic on National Highway-24 connecting New Delhi and Lucknow via Bareilly has been disrupted at Moradabad.

The day Irrigation Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui held a meeting of his department asking officials to control floods, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came down heavily on the BSP Government saying the state government was not doing enough to provide relief to the flood victims.
