India Keeping Pace With Global Warming Trends

New Delhi: Following the release of global temperature data which revealed April of 2010 was the hottest April ever and that this year so far has been warmest on record, Nasa has said global temperatures have been steadily rising since the late 1970s with no significant let-up in the trend.

Climate experts at the first South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SACOF) meet comprising South Asian countries who met in Pune last week believe the monsoon this year could be less than normal. Countries attending the meet included Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, all of whom are dependent on the monsoon for their food production.

KOCHI: The monsoon is likely to hit Kerala earlier than usual, most probably by the last week of May. With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a normal southwest monsoon this year, everybody is waiting for the weathermen to release their forecast on when it would start raining.

The south west monsoon is likely to hit the Kerala coast on June 1. According to preliminary observations made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, there is nothing to indicate that the monsoon will arrive before or after the scheduled date.
