The disposal of untreated industrial effluent into receiving water courses has become a major environmental challenge being faced by most of the developing countries. In Pakistan numerous industrial units that dispose their effluent directly into receiving stream without any treatment.

This study examined the pollution levels in the coastal water resources and its socio-economic effects on the Iko Group of Communities. Water samples were collected from 19 locations and analyzed while socio-economic data were collected using questionnaire. The input data from laboratory analysis were correlated with socio-economic data using correlation and regression analyses.

The Rani tailayya (pond) is one of the famous water bodies of Chhatarpur district, M.P. The area of this pond is 3.035 ha. Monitoring of physico-chemical and biological analysis of water was carried out monthly during November 2004 to January 2005.

The efficacy of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) based on activated sludge process employed for treatment of tannery effluent was analyzed for the efficiency to reduce chromium and other contaminants. Physico-chemical parameters of treated effluent were found within permissible levels of statutory limits.

This project is being proposed by the authors for the abatement of pollution of sacred waters of river Shipra, surrounding nearly three fourth of Ujjain the town of Madhya Pradesh, as an integrated approach for fruitful solution for abatement of pollution of the river Shipra.

The temporal and spatial distribution of salinity, DO, BOD, turbidity, pH, hardness and dissolved nutrients of surface water collected from different points of Dhamra estuary were measured during February-2007 to January-2008. The pH of water was alkaline throughout the year. The salinity, conductance, hardness increased towards the river mouth as compared to inland stations.
