‘More villagesare straddling therural-urban divide’

The surge in census towns (CTs) during Census 2011 has drawn a lot of attention to the ongoing and future dynamics of these in-situ urban settlements in India. Using the village level information from the previous and current censuses, the present study attempts to identify the villages that can be classified as a census town in 2021.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Conversion of census towns into statutory towns, 11/08/2016. As per Census, 2011, the total number of census towns in the country is 3892. State wise details are given in Annexure. Declaration of census towns into statutory towns is done by the respective state governments under their statues.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Tiger Population, 02/08/2016. The country level tiger estimation using the refined methodology is done once in four years. As per the assessment of the Status of Tigers, Co-predators and Prey, 2014 using the refined methodology, the tiger number has shown 30% increase countrywide with an estimated number of 2226 (range 1945-2491) as compared to
2010 estimation of 1706 (range 1520-1909 tigers). The details of tiger estimation pertaining to tiger landscapes in the country for the years 2010 and 2014 are at Annexure-I.

The number of main workers in the age group of 5-14 years in the country is 43.53 lakh as per 2011 Census which shows a decline from 2001 Census. The number of main workers in the age group of 5 to 14 years as per 2011 Census, State-wise is given at Annexure. The occupational sector wise data is not available from 2011 Census.
