CONNIE HEDEGAARD, the Danish minister for environment, will be president and chairwoman of the 12-day United Nations sponsored global climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen starting December 8.

Weeks ahead of the Copenhagen Summit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said India was ready to do more on climate change if developed nations offer financial resources and technology.

The Centre on Tuesday said that it would not accept legally binding emission cuts, which is the primary responsibility of developed nations.

While replying to a calling attention on "government's changing position on climate change", Mr Jairam Ramesh sought to allay apprehensions voiced by Opposition that India would cave in to pressure of developed nations on the issue.
