The Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister for Corporate Affairs, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, on March 17, 2020. The Bill seeks to amend the Companies Act, 2013. Under the 2013 Act, certain provisions from the Companies Act, 1956 continue to apply to producer companies.

The Himalayan nettle (Note 1) is a fiber yielding non-timber forest product that has cultural, economic and medicinal values to many ethnic communities residing in the hill and mountain areas of Nepal and India. If the nettle value chain can be strengthened at each node of the chain, then it has high potentiality to uplifting the livelihoods of many poor households in those areas.

A minimum of eight units, in Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts were selected through probability proportional to size sampling technique (PPS) to study the work profile of nettle units in Uttarakhand. Fifty per cent of nettle units were established in the years 2007-2008. It was observed that 72.50 per cent and 62.50 per cent of nettle fibres were used in Uttarakashi and Chamoli respectively. They used 100 per cent nettle fibre which is a harvest wild growth in this area.

The handloom sector has been continuously denied public funds. An analysis of budgetary allocations since 1997-98 shows that the handloom sector funding has not kept up with costs of production, and inflationary increases during the period.

In this study, Bambusa vulgaris raised in 3/4 of an acre of a farm land in Aaarupatti village of Dharmangalam Taluk of Salem District in Tamil Nadu, India mustered profit for a farmer. The trained farmer planted 111 seedlings during 2004 and obtained 1050 culms with the net income of Rs. 52, 500 per annum. This was made possible as the Forestry Extension Centre, Salem District trained the farmer for bamboo cultivation and also educated about its utility value.
