Mumbai: As part of its preparedness plans for monsoon 2010, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) served the first batch of warning notices on Friday to landslide-prone areas of the eastern suburbs.

Mumbai The Navy and the National Disaster Response Force will join the BMC fire brigade in flood management as the city braces for a good monsoon this year. After a series of mock flood drills to train its personnel for rescue operations, the BMC has approached the Navy and the NDRF for help.

BHUBANESWAR: Laila, the cyclonic storm, formed over Bay of Bengal, was heading towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and its outer wings may just graze Orissa causing rain.

The storm after its landfall is likely to move into coastal parts of Orissa.

In anticipation, the State Government has already alerted the coastal district administrations and put in place emergency measures.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) claims it is ready with its pre-monsoon plan. A ward-wise control room will be commissioned from May 20 and manpower will be readied for disaster preparedness.

The National Disaster Relief Flood (NDRF) will form three groups of 45 jawans each for the city, the western suburbs and eastern suburbs.

The PWD on Thursday began removing the mud, which was deposited in the Bicholim River, where the construction of a bridge is in progress.
It may be recalled that PWD, while undertaking the construction work of the parallel bridge on Bicholim River, had deposited heaps of mud near one of the main pillars of the bridge, due to which the entire flow of water from Bicholim River had been blocked.
