Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has welcomed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) recent draft order which proposes to put curbs on the rampant use of antibiotics as a growth promoter in food-producing animals in India, such as chicken.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published a draft Order for domestically produced and imported meat and poultry products that notes a procedure will be developed to inspect and monitor slaughtering and processing plants before granting market access to trading partners.

A significant number of cases were registered against traders under the erstwhile PFAA and are pending in various courts across the country
