This article is an interim outcome of an action research project being done on Water Governance under which an analysis of the sub-basin is being done to understand the dynamics of water allocation and regulation in practice. It studies inter-sectoral water allocation, planning and management in the last decade in the small sub-basin (Waghadi) in Painganga basin of Godavari River in Maharashtra.

Operation Godavari Clean-up programme was taken up by Puducherry minister for tourism Malladi Krishna Rao on Sunday. Mr Krishna Rao brought about 500 volunteers of the Yanam Pourula Sankshema Sangam and took up the cleaning. The programme started at 7 am and continued till 5 pm. Volunteers picked up all floating waste material like polythene bags, plastic and other materials from the various Godavari ghats.

The minister for major irrigation, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, said on Thursday that tenders wo-uld be soon called to launch a water project to supply Godavari water to seven mandals in Mulug division. The minister said government was keen to fulfil the wish of the division peoples' long-pending demand for supply of Godavari water.

The Telugu Desam state president, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Tuesday found fault with the Godavari water policy of the Congress government. Speaking to newsmen, Mr Naidu said that the government has no vision in using Godavari river water for the purpose of irrigation. He said that the projects taken up by Dummugudem Link Canal Project and Indirasagar Irrigation Projects were not pragmatic and the government is wasting crores of rupees by going to impractical projects.

This paper represents the result of chemical characteristics such as Dissolved Oxygen, Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Chemical Oxygen Demand during one year at Nanded (Maharashtra) and Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh). It was observed that Godavari River at Nanded was more polluted than Rajahmundry.
