Transport reforms being worked out under the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will make every private vehicle user pay for using its infrastructure.
Pune The World Bank on Thursday approved Rs 160 crore to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for executing the non-motorised transport projects on the pilot Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes along with showing interest in the ambitious Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) initiative by the civic administration for improving the public transport in the city.

In case of Delhi, too, where the system has experienced a lot of teething troubles, 409 km of route has been envisaged at a cost of Rs.4,510 crore.
The Ministry of Urban Development is the nodal Ministry for planning and coordination of Urban Transport matters at the central level. Urban Transport is not defined in the Constitution as a separate subject and the allocation of subjects between Central and State List is mode-wise.
Ahmedabad : The city could well get to see its first bicycle lanes by 2009. The entire network of BRTS corridor will have bicycle lanes
alongside by then. These will be no ordinary lanes occupied by squatters or hawkers. It will be an exclusive zone for those who want to pedal hard.
