GUWAHATI: The Brihattar Guwahati Unnayan Samiti Samuhar Aikya Mancha alleged that the provisions of the Guwahati Waterbodies (Preservation and Conservation) Act, 2008 has been flouted by the district administration.

The Mancha said that a part of the waterbody at the Bunda village in Beltola Mauja under the Chandrapur Revenue Circle had been allegedly handed over to the Maria Public School in 2002 by the district administration, which was a violation of the Guwahati Waterbodies (Preservation and Conservation) Act, 2008. Again in 2007, another portion of the waterbody had also been handed over to the same school.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has cleared the proposal for construction of around 15,000 tenements by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board at Perumbakkam.

The clearance follows the TNSCB fulfilling the requirement of constructing an 18-metre-wide road near the multi-storeyed buildings. The move seeks to facilitate the resettlement and rehabilitation of 15,000 families from the city. However, the TNSCB is planning to reduce the number of tenements proposed in the project.

The Delhi Cabinet on Wednesday approved auctioning of fishing activities in 24 water bodies on gram sabha land in the Capital.

At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, it was decided that fish culture would be encouraged in the water bodies and village ponds to overcome the problem of encroachment of such water bodies situated on gram sabha land.
