The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) would connect at least one woman from every poor household across the country with self-help groups (SHGs) in five years, Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said on Friday.

“The objective of the programme is to ensure that in a five-year period one woman from every poor household becomes a member of SHG. Today we have three crore women who are members of SHGs, and we have to raise it to seven crore in five years,” Mr. Ramesh said.

GUWAHATI: Continuing its support for rural infrastructure development in Assam, NABARD has sanctioned two projects to the Assam Government under RIDF-XVII for a total sum of Rs 138.34 crores. Under the two projects, a total of Rs 16.73 crore have been sanctioned for 5 rural road projects in Golaghat district while Rs 121.61 have been sanctioned for 102 rural bridge projects in 26 districts of the State.

NABARD extending big assistance

The government has sanctioned Rs.1,000 crore for the Public Works Department (PWD) to take up works of road and construction of bridges.The funds have been made available for the Rs.701-crore projects announced in the last budget and for the Rs.291.33-crore road development project being implemented with the financial assistance of NABARD.
