UDALGURI, Feb 16

KOLKATA, Feb. 12: The state government will set up two potato export facilitation centres in the state. The centres will help promote export of potato to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, minister for food processing Mr Mohanta Chatterjee said today.

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Parkash Singh Badal has sanctioned a corpus fund of Rs 5 crore from the rural development fund (RDF) for operating a freight subsidy of Rs 400 per tonne for marketing of potatoes within India and Rs 1,500 per tonne for export.

Markfed explores market for export

Markfed will facilitate export of 3,000 tonnes of potato to West Asia countries besides inter-state movement of two lakh tonnes to ease potato glut in the state and ensure remunerative price..

Markfed has offered Rs 250 per tonne as freight subsidy to potato farmers across the state for inter-state movement of the crop and Rs 1,000 per tonne as freight subsidy for exports.

Financial Commissioner (Cooperation) BC Gupta said today that the department had written to the financial commissioner development for the funds needed for the subsidy.
