Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding repair work on the reservoir situated in Chambal river, 06/03/2017

Order of the Supreme Court of India dated 06/03/2017 in the matter of T. N. Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others regarding repair work to secure the pipe bridge balancing reservoir and pipeline situated in Chambal river and part of which is going through the National Ghadiyal Sanctuary. Supreme Court directs the Applicant to make sure that no disturbance is caused to the wildlife and no building or construction material is left behind.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Water Level in Major Reservoirs, 09/02/2017. Central Water Commission (CWC) monitors live storage status of 91 reservoirs of the country on weekly basis and issues weekly bulletin on every Thursday. Out of these reservoirs, 10 reservoirs are in Gujarat. Water availability of the 91 reservoirs monitored by CWC against their storage capacity at end of the monsoon season i.e. 30th September during last three years is given in Annexure-I.

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Sunder Singh Vs State of NCT of Delhi & Others dated 09/12/2016 regarding illegal encroachments made in the water body ‘Johad’ bearing Khasra No. 148 admeasuring 6 Bighas and 13 Biswas of the Gram Sabha of Issarpur, Najafgarh, Delhi. National Green Tribunal directs the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Najafgarh ondent No. 7, to remove encroachments, if any, and keep the existing pond ‘Johad’, measuring 4 Bighas; improve its cleanliness within a period of 3 months and eventually develop the water body into a reservoir.
