The matter related to felling of mangrove trees for the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. The petition was filed by Bombay Environmental Action Group and arose out of the final judgment and order dated February 2, 2023 passed by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to cut 350 mangrove trees for 8-lane Vadodara-Mumbai expressway.

The matter related to protecting the flora and fauna of the Kailash Kund-Seoz Dhar region by declaring the same as protected area and not to allow construction of the road in the said region as the same will have an adverse impact on the environment there.

Grievance in the application is for remedial action against damage to the environment in Mumbai city near coastal road at Wadala to Mahul, close to Chembur to CST freeway by adding debris on the salt pan, making island out of it and encroaching the same, affecting the mangroves which are important for Mumbai city. Unauthorized structures are against CRZ Regulations issued under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 said the applicant, Madhura Rajesh Tawde.

Grievance in the application is against failure of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in complying with its environmental obligations in the course of construction of 8-lane highway No. 44 from Mukarba chowk to Singhu border, Delhi. It is stated that near village Khampur lot of dust is generated in absence of sprinkling of water. It is further stated that 161 trees have been cut in January 2021.

Measures are being taken to control the air pollution due to the loading and unloading of coal by vehicles plying on the Hal road of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) Khadia project at Shakti Nagar, Sonbhadra. This is adjacent to the rehabilitated village of Chilkadand in violation of environmental norms, creating heavy dust pollution and health hazard to local residents.

The National Green Tribunal, March 3 directed a joint committee to look into the complaint of Mangalore Smart City Corporation Limited (MSCCL) proposing to cut several trees in the process of widening of road from Nandigudda to Marnimakatte.

The matter related to permission for e-rickshaws to ply in the city of Matheran and laying down of concrete paver blocks on the roads in Matheran.

The SC directed a Monitoring Committee to decide on whether to permit e-rickshaws and the laying down of paver blocks in the city of Matheran, an eco sensitive zone.

The SC said that laying down of paver blocks would destroy the natural beauty of the city.
