GUWAHATI: The first State review of the ongoing externally-aided projects in Assam took place today at the NEDFi House in Guwahati.

Arunodoy Sangha, NGO, and the forest department of Cachar, on Tuesday launched save nature campaign on the occasion of the World Environment Day at Udharband, 13 km from here.

The campaign began with the conveyance of the message of the day and through mass plantations of trees, both general and herbal. With the active participation of the students of various schools around the Udharband block as well as from the Diet located there, the celebration was made quite eventful.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken up the case of land-grabbing, diversion of forest land on Patharia Reserve Forest, pushing about 300 families of forest dwellers on the brink of starvation, besides rendering them homeless.

The human rights watchdog of the nation registered the case in the matter as vide no 99/3/10/2012 on a complaint filed by the Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (BHRPC) after it conducted a fact finding study of the situation.
